Loughborough Mela brings colour, music and dance to the town centre.

2nd Sep 2024

Thousands flocked to Loughborough Market Place to enjoy a varied programme  of entertainment from across the world.

This year's Mela was opened by the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Julie Bradshaw, who was accompanied to the stage by the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, and then toured the various stalls, meeting volunteers from many local organisations.

The entertainment on the main stage began with the Nottingham Ukrainian Ensemble, followed by the Quorn Ukelele Orchestra and popular local Asian Dance Group, Hum Hai Hindustani.

Other acts included Bollywood dancing from Mela regulars, R & R productions, Hip Hop and Grime music & dancing from Lacky C and Jonezy and a rousing drum climax from the Dhol Players and Band Baja.

Mela Group Co-ordinator, Varsha Parmar, gave her thanks to all concerned, remarking that she was "delighted to be able to say that it was a great success; the performances were amazing and the stalls worked well"

Mela Group Member, Mike Jones, added "the Mela makes a valuable contribution to community life within the town, showing how people of different nationalities, faiths and beliefs can enjoy working together for the good of all.
