Prevent - Problem or Solution?
18th Aug 2017
Prevent: Problem or Solution?
Come and have your say and about the Prevent Strategy, learn about how it works in our local context and explore with others how we can address the challenges and concerns Prevent raises.
Equality Action, in partnership with Loughborough Council of Faiths, Charnwood Borough Council are organising an event on 13th September 2017 10 – 3pm at Roseberry St Peter’s Community Centre. The event is free but booking is essential.
The event is open to 16+.
There will be Key Note speakers from Police, Prevent Team, and Channel Project.
Over the past few months the government’s Prevent strategy has been back in the news in the aftermath of terrorist attacks in Manchester, London and at Finsbury Park Mosque. Billed by some as being as being fundamental in tackling terrorism in the UK and an effective way to lead people away from radicalization and by others as being a heavy handed counterproductive approach that has added to a general sense of mistrust across communities, Prevent has both its champions and its critics.
What does this look like in our local context? Loughborough Council of Faiths, Equality Action, Police and the Prevent Team are hosting a conference to address some of the questions raised about Prevent. Speakers will share some of the ways in which the Prevent strategy is currently implemented locally and attendees will be the opportunity to share concerns and ask questions. Workshops looking at constructive ways forward will form part of the day which the organisers hope will be supported by a wide cross section of our community.
This event is FREE but booking is essential via Eventbrite.
